Charles Frederick Barker Jr.

Charles “Charlie” Frederick Barker Jr., 81, of South Beach, Ore., died of complications from surgery on June 21, 2009 at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis.
He was born March 11, 1928 to Charles Frederick Sr. and Mildred Benton Barker in Needham, Mass. He graduated from high school and attended trade school.
He held various jobs, including those of volunteer firefighter and volunteer sheriff, and a scuba diver who helped with search and rescue. He also worked as a heavy equipment operator with Collin’s Pine Co. for more than 30 years before retiring.
In the last two years of his life, he devoted his time to what he considered his most important work: telling others about God’s kingdom and his hope for a future paradise on Earth.
He was a longtime Jehovah’s Witness. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and was an avid scuba diver throughout his life.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Barker of South Beach; daughter, Edith Henderson; son, Charles Barker III; stepson, Patrick Kelley; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
