Waldport tunes up for districts in blazing sun at Toledo Twilight

While it was called the Toledo Twilight Meet, the bright sunshine and 80-plus degree temperatures bore little resemblance to twilight for Waldport tracksters who gathered, along with athletes from Toledo, Philomath and Tillamook, for the Boomer’s last home meet of the year Saturday, May 4.

The heat was definitely the X-factor of the meet. With only the pole vault pit completely shaded from start to finish, almost every competitor got to feel some of the unseasonal sun, and between events, athletes could be seen crowding together in what little shade was to be found, from the picnic area by the grandstand to behind the scoreboard used for football.
