Highway 101 no-spray project to continue into 2013

Posted: Wednesday, Jun 20th, 2012

SEAL ROCK - The Highway 101 No Spray Pilot Project has been extended at least through the year 2013.

Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) Northwest Region 2 Manager Sonny Chickering indicated the program’s continuation in a letter to Concerned Citizens for Clean Air (CCCA), the local nonprofit group which partners with ODOT on the project.

The project extends from Newport southward to the Lane County line, between mile posts 142 and 167.8. ODOT uses herbicides only as a last resort to prevent the establishment and spread of noxious weeds. This has been done only once in the first five years of the project.
