Helen Anderson moved to Yachats last year to escape the heat of Arizona. Now she’ll take on the challenge of helping manage her new community as a member of the city’s planning commission, a post to which she was confirmed at the Yachats City Council’s monthly meeting Feb. 14.
“I’m interested in getting involved in the activities of the city,” she told the council during her confirmation hearing. “In a small town it’s important to stick to the rules so one’s feelings get hurt.”
Council members took the opportunity to emphasize the importance of the post she was entering before voting unanimously to put her in it.
“I just want to underscore how important the planning commission is,” Mayor Ron Brean said. “You have a great deal of independence in action.”
