State extends deadline for wave buoy anchor removal

In September 2012, New Jersey-based Ocean Power Technologies deployed one of three anchors needed for its first wave energy device off of Reedsport, Similar to the one shown in this picture. Deployment of the anchor Ė a concrete device the size of a double car garage Ė went awry when it didnít land where planned, and the subsurface buoy holding the mooring cable sank. The state recently extended OPTís deadline to submit an anchor recovery plan until Oct. 15.
Oregonís only licensed wave energy project received an extension last week to remove a subsurface buoy and floating gravity-based anchor.
