NEWPORT —This year, if a student is caught with a knife in school, it won’t mean automatic expulsion – depending on the circumstances.
The Lincoln County School District Board of Directors voted to update the weapon policy at the Aug. 12 meeting, making punishment dependent on each case.
“All in all, the changes to the weapons policy are very positive,” Student Services Administrator Aaron Belloni said. “School administrators now have the flexibility to investigate individual incidents, which will allow them to make the right choice when considering discipline for a suspected weapons violation.”
