NEWPORT — Lincoln County is providing assistance to residents needing health insurance who have had difficulty navigating the Cover Oregon website to enroll in the state’s version of the federal Affordable Care Act.
Through a federal grant via the Health Resource and Services Administration, the county hired an outreach enrollment worker to assist people to enroll either in the Oregon Health Plan (OHP) or obtain private insurance.
The results have been remarkable since the hiring last September of Lauren Bailey, a health-care professional for 20 years.
Rebecca McBee-Wilson, director of the Lincoln Community Health Center, told county commissioners Wednesday that since Bailey came aboard the percentage of county residents who didn’t have health or dental insurance has dropped from 40 to 20 percent.
