SOUTH BEACH — Tomatoes took the spotlight during an afternoon garden tour at Oregon Coast Community College (OCCC) on Aug. 20 as part of Master Gardener Week 2014 in Lincoln County.

Gardening enthusiasts were invited to explore the Master Gardener Demonstration Garden at OCCC’s South Beach campus, complete with a tomato-tasting competition.

A wide array of locally grown tomatoes took up the entire length of a table, and visitors were invited to go down the line, tasting the ripe and colorful produce.

Most of the tomato varieties, with fancy names like Lucky Tiger and Venice, were grown by Lincoln County Master Gardener Association members Sally Reill and Claudette Schroeder. Fellow members also contributed to the bounty.
